Q: How are music files sorted on the X3?

A:
1. Play by category->all songs: first shows all individual songs by alphabetical filename order, sorting songs starting with numbers by the numeric value (ie no need to add leading zeroes for sorting); songs contained within cue files are listed at the end, according to the specified order within cue files.
2. Artists: First shows artist names alphabetically; after selecting a certain artist, his/her songs are shown in alphabetical order according to the Title ID3 tag, sorting songs starting with numbers by the numeric value (ie no need to add leading zeroes for sorting).
3. Genres: First shows all genre names alphabetically; after selecting a certain genre, songs following the genre are shown in alphabetical order according to the Title ID3 tag, sorting songs starting with numbers by the numeric value (ie no need to add leading zeroes for sorting).
4. Albums: First shows all album names alphabetically; after selecting a certain album, songs in the album are shown according to track order.
5. Browse Files: First shows folders / subfolders at the current level alphabetically, then showing individual songs in alphabetical order according to the Title ID3 tag, sorting songs starting with numbers by the numeric value (ie no need to add leading zeroes for sorting); songs contained within cue files are listed at the end, according to the specified order within cue files.

What about albums ripped from multiple CDs?
I have a mix album from 2 CDs that I ripped using iTunes ALAC format.  iTunes sets the "disc" tag to 1 or 2.  The track numbers of disc 1 start at 1, the track number of disc 2 also start at 1.
I was expected the X3 to play disc 1 first, but it plays track 1 of disc 1, then track 1 of disc 2...

I have a mix album from 2 CDs that I ripped using iTunes ...

I have renamed the files to %DiscNumber%-%TrackNumber% - %SongTitle%

So they will show up as:

01-01 - Song A
01-02 - Song B
01-03 - Song C
02-01 - Song 1
02-02 - Song 2
02-03 - Song 3

This allows them to play in the correct order.

Hi, the X3 will not detect the disc tag information, and the tracks will be only sorted by track number. So yes, maybe you can try to edit the track number information of disc 2.

Hello,

I believe albums under an artist folder should be sorted by the release date. Like this:

Van Halen\1978 - Van Halen
Van Halen\1984 - 1984

Current behavior is to have "1984" album on top since "1" comes before "V". But people remember albums mostly by their year of release rather than the name and I think sorting they by year would be more efficient.
