Q: How to resolve installation failure of the X3's DAC driver on Windows 8/8.1 64bit?

A: Known issue:  the driver will fail to install on Windows 8 64bit computers.  This is related to the driver signature module.  The driver has not been signed for Windows 8 64bit and will not work while driver signature enforcement is in effect.  
Please disable driver signature enforcement as follows:
Mouse over upper right corner of screen->settings->Change PC settings->General-> Adancedstart-up >Restart now->Troubleshoot->Adanced options->Start-up Settings->Restart->Press F7 to disable driver signature enforcement.
After such a restart, the computer will be able to install unsigned drivers, but give a warning when this happens
(as is the case with installation in XP, Vista, Windows 7), just click Install anway to proceed.

x3 2nd gen driver for windows 8.1 64bit not working, certificate name vendor is expired, tusbaudioks.inf error security catalog. please fix asap.

I have disabled the driver enforcement , but still unable to activate DAP in win 8.1 64 bit

HI.  I stumbled across the answer after a bit of head scratching!

After disabling driver enforcement following the instructions posted open the zip file containing the driver with Windows Explorer.  You should see an option for Extract All in the top ribbon - click on this.  A new window will open, with what look like exactly the same files in it - this is actually a new folder containging the extracted & working files.  Click (or double click) Setup & the driver will install properly.  Don't forget to set your player to DAC in the UI (USB mode setting in Main Settings menu.

com on guys it s a 300$ product it should work

Hi, lesniak, do you disable the signature verification in your pc? You need to disable it as it needs signature in win8.
To the win10, pls uninstalling the driver, disabling driver signature verification in Windows, restarting, and re-installing the driver.

Hi

I have windows 10. I have disabled the signature verification and set my X5ii to DAC mode. I have tried both USB 2 and 3 ports, but every time the drivers fail at the end of the installation process.

In the device manager, the FiiO X5ii has a yello triangle by it and has the error message saying the device was unable to start (Error Code 10). Hope this helps.

There's nothing wrong with my system, as I have an Ifi Micro iDSD, iUSB and iCAN setup that works perfectly.

Fiio, please help.

Yes I did.

As you said that you could see a yellow triangle in the device manager, would you pls uninstall the driver then install it again? I guess it is not the device issue. You could try another pc to test whether the device is broken. I look forward your reply.

Already uninstalled the driver many times and also the device in the device manager and then rebooted. No difference. Will try another PC.

I think your x5ii is okay. As you said that you have disable the signature verification, would you pls install the driver as Administrator? BTW, could you test another pc in win7 or XP? Maybe you could ask the seller for a replacement, which can save much time.

Tried to run as an administrator. In storage mode, driver installation fails at the end. In DAC mode it tells me the device needs to be plugged in. Exactly the same as before.

It's true that 1.61 is quite old now, 2012. I have had some issues with it too, even under Win7.
I'd discuss returns with retailer only, being based in EU, you are entitled for 2-year warranty.
But this is likely error on the OS part. I'd try running live linux distro to see whether it¨s recognized. If so, then it has to be issue on the software side.

I found the answer to the driver failing to install thanks to another forum. When installing, disconnect from the internet and turn off your virus protection. Works every time.

Hope this helps anyone having issues.

Sorry that we didn't get this response before. In general, disable the signature verification will solve this issue. We didn't think the virus protection issue. Thanks for letting us know about that, darren.
