Q: What earphones is the E12 suitable for driving?

A: The E12 is best suited to headphones with higher power requirements, such as high-impedance or low-efficiency earphones / headphones, and most over-ear headphones.  If the E12 is used to drive high-efficiency IEMs / earbuds, it becomes a matter of taste whether an improvement is perceived, and the main effect of the E12 on such earphones would be a change in character.  If you will be listening with high-efficiency IEMs / earbuds, we recommend auditioning the E12 before buying.  For locating a place to audition the E12, please refer to click here.

I just purchased the E12A was trying to better understand the gain switch and started to question whether I should have bought the E12 vs. E12A?!
I'll explain.  I bought the E12A to drive Fostex T40RP III's and my ear buds.
The Fostex efficiency is 91dB/mW and 50 ohms impedance.
For exercise I use Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 IEM's with a sensitivity of 117dB/mW & 32 ohms impedance which more-and-more sounds like a perfect paring for the E12A, NOT the Fostex..  The more I read in this forum, I should have bought the E12 to drive the Fostex (w/a Fiio X1 as the source).
As it is, the Fiio X1 has enough output for my IEM'S but completely inadequate to drive the Fostex, hence tha amp purchase..
The package is unopened so returning it isn't an issue.
I confess though, I was really drawn to the E12A for it's appearance.
Any thoughts?
