Just purchased an X1. Love the product, and everything else... However, the documentation included with it needs some more information included with it.

My main issue is this: What the heck is the file structure supposed to look like on the memory card? The documentation I've been able to find simply says "transfer music to device". OK, great--But, how should the files be structured? Is there supposed to be a "Music" folder on it, or are all files just dumped on the root?

After uploading those files to the Micro SD card, the file structure will not be changed and it is still the same as displaying in the computer. So, you can go access the folders/files directly by "Browse files" in the X1.
Of course, you also can go access those songs by "All songs" or "Category", but it is required to update the media library in the X1 firstly.

I don't think you understand what I'm asking. What should the file structure look like on the card? Should there be individual folders for each artist, with subfolders for each album? Should every .mp3 file be on the root directory?

The reason I asked this is that I transferred the SDHC card from another player with its default folder structure, and the media library hangs every time on that card. I've changed that card's folder structure numerous times, but it keeps hanging up, no matter what I do. And, when I put that data onto another card that I know works, the same thing happens. When I dump a couple of .mp3 files onto the root on a card, the media library works. However, trying to find anything on that card without some kind of folder system is just a huge annoyance.

Hence, the question: What is the directory (folder) structure supposed to look like?

Sorry for misunderstanding your problem!
The X1 can be compatible with the file structure with subfolders. That is to say, there is no need to make every file be on the root directory.
The Mciro SD card was already FAT32? For your this case, it's suggested to use the X1 to format the X1 to FAT32 directly. Then to load the music folders and test it again. Hope that helps.

Yes, it also works for the X3 as well. Pls try to upgrade your X3 to the latest version firmware. Similarly, it's suggested to format the Micro SD card by the X3 directly.
BTW, after taking out the Micro SD card, any folder layout in the X3 internal memory also can't be recognized?
