How to use the X3II, X5II, X5 or X3 as a USB DAC on a Windows computer (or all 4 at the same time)?

1. Download the latest USB DAC driver(v 3.34.0) for all X players for windows:
Note: this new DAC driver will not compatible with the X3II which is running FW1.4 or previous version firmware. That is to say, it is suggested to update the X3II to the latest firmware FW2.0(click here) firstly.

2. Update Windows 7 for accepting SHA256 certificates
Our driver package is signed with a SHA256 certificate. Windows 8 and 10 accept this SHA256 certificate by default.
On Windows 7 Microsoft has released a patch to also accept SHA256 certificates. You will get it through Windows update or you can be downloaded here:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46148
The description from Microsoft can be found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3033929
Windows 7 only accepts SHA1 certificates by default. But SHA1 certificates are deprecated and shouldn't be used anymore. You also don't get new SHA1 certificates from the certificate providers.
Please update your Windows 7 systems and try again installing the driver.

3. On your X player, go to System Settings->USB mode and change the mode to DAC.  Then connect it with a USB port on the computer using our provided USB cable (for desktop computers, it is recommended to connect to a port on the back of the computer directly connected to the motherboard.  The X player is compatible with both USB 2 and USB 3 ports.)

4. After unzipping the drivers downloaded in step 1, install the drivers following the steps shown here:
The user guide for installing the USB DAC driver
(note: you would need to uninstall any previous versions of drivers first.)

5. How to use more than one X player as DAC with the same computer?
After running the driver installation for the first time, the computer will support using whichever X player was connected during installation as DAC.  To support other X players you may own for use as DAC at the same time, simply connect the other player(s) to the computer by the micro USB cable, then it will automatically complete the installation.
You can go access to "Hareware and sound" -> "Sound" on the Control Panel, and check whehter the X players is recognized by the computer successfully.

(The first person to post a picture of the X3 1st gen, 2nd gen and the X5 all connected to the same computer and running as DAC may win a prize?? )

I tried all I can to connect my x5 2nd gen in usb DAC mode, but it seems there is a Windows preinstallation driver error . The device is not getting detected in DAC mode. Storage mode works fine by the way.

FIX below;

Apparently Windows 10 made it impossible for me to use X5SG as a DAC nor Storage mode through any of my Clevo laptop's mainboard USBs. Yes, I'm saying all of them don't work for my case, changing cable doesn't work as well, blame it on Windows.

~Thankfully, I found a fix~

1. Follow step 1-4 as the above.
2. Plug in your X5/X3 through an "external USB hub". (mine is a 4 port 3.0 USB port, other times I can use it through my external monitor's USB 2.0 hub as well)

Now both DAC & Storage mode works.

I'm having the same issue here, none of the 12 USB port on my PC work...

Guess i'll have to go get a USB hub, is yours externally powered or just powered straight off the USB port?

Do you set x5 as the default?

It is not shown in my available playback devices no. The driver is installed and recognizes when the x5 is plugged in and the x5 changes into DAC playback mode. The only thing not working is the x5 does not appear in that list. Do I need to update my x5 to the latest firmware for it to work correctly even if it appears to be working on the x5?

It seems weird as you said that it is installed. It Should be shown in your  playback devices no.
How about changing another usb jack in your pc to test? By the way, do you have foobar. I mean that you could go to foobar to check whether the driver is installed.

If it doesn't show up as a playback device, then for some reason, the driver did not get installed properly. That is the first and foremost issue. I would totally uninstall and reinstall from the very beginning (including making sure that "Unsigned Driver Enforcement" is truly disabled).

Hello,

i have the same problem.

When you unplugged and plugged it back it, is it in DAC mode? Can you see the DAC interface?

It is in the DAC mode, for the first several times i saw the interface. It was there all the time while plugged in, but after couple tries the interface stopped showing up. Or to be more exact it pops up for a 0,5 second and goes back to main menu. So now when I connect the x3II the DAC interface flashes on the screen one time and disappears. One more thing. It used to be discovered in the USB Audio Class Driver Control Panel. It showed the version and all, now it doesn't .

This means that the DAC driver has not been installed successfully. If you have the virus protection software, pls close it and uninstall the driver then install the driver as administrator.

it's the x5(original), in dac mode. fw 2.6
I get past the check. it fails on the software install. I uninstalled everything and then manually removed the left over empty directories. I do the install using 'run as administrator'. I already disabled driver enforcement.

I have used BCDEDIT to verify that driver signing enforcement is off. ( to do this yourself just type 'bcdedit' at the command prompt )
