I have never used the small USB port on the bottom of my X5 for anything other than charging the internal battery.

I'd like to try this "OTG" ("On The Go?") function.  But I want to make sure I understand everything first.

Is this supposed to allow me to attach a small hard drive or flash drive, like a 1TB drive loaded with songs... and access them and play them on my X5?

If so... are there specific brands I should look for?  Presumably, if a drive can be formatted to FAT32, then it can be used--that's my understanding of it.

I bought a nice Western Digital Passport drive last night, 2TB in size.  It came preformatted for "Windows" (whatever that means, I haven't worked with M$ Windows in 10 years), but I'm sure I can hook it up to my big Power Mac workstation and use Disk Utility to reformat to FAT32.

I'm approaching the point where I have almost three full mSD 128GB's of FLAC files.  I think having this extra big drive might work.  Would also allow me to FLAC-rip all my old Beatles CDs.

Thanks!

OY!!!   Boy, do I feel kinda DUMB right now...

You know, when I first got this thing... I was a bit of a mess, personally.  My dad had just died, I was getting ready to fly back home after his funeral and burial, I was leaving my mother behind in a nursing home (she had Alzheimer's).  The box arrived about a day before I started my journey back, and I really didn't have that much time to look at things.  I remember seeing all these little cables, the little pins that you stick in the unused connection holes to keep the dust and dirt out (a nice little feature, I'll say!).

So, now, after a couple of Google searches, and an image or two, I now know that I've had this thing under my nose all this time!  And with a card already full of music... well, I guess I just need to crack this thing open and put it to work.

It'd be kinda cool, though, if I could hook up that big 2TB monster...

Hi, rkowalik
To be honest, the otg function is not so excellect in x5. It is suggested to use the drive lower than 100 gb. You know that it will load the cpu seriously if the external disk is large. This may lead to the  freezing issue.

To keep the system stable, it is either not suggested to connect the large disk outside x7. Of course x7's otg function is more excellect.

I have kept 32Gb SD Card as my OTG connection and never faced any issue. The files are read well. THis is besides my 2 128Gb Sandisk inserted in the X5II. I am quite satisfied with the 2nd Gen X5 and never faced any issues with any files or ports. The OTG issue was resolved in the 2nd Firmware upgrade that is version 1.1 rather than the actual firmware which came along with the device.

I am sure the X7 would resolve all these issues and curtail the limitations of the file size.
