Hi,

Last night I unplugged my X5 III when it had completed charging to 100%, made sure it was not playing and pushed the power button to put it in standby. I have the idle timer set to 30 minutes so it should have gone into deep sleep 30 minutes after I put it into standby.

However, when I woke up this morning the battery was completely dead (1%) and looking at the battery graph it had discharged at a steady rate for something like 9 or 10 hours before it shut down due to the dead battery.

I can see no way this should have happened since even if I had bumped something without noticing and started it playing it should have shut down in an hour at most since the "play through folders" option is off. Does anyone have any ideas how this could have happened?

The only thing I can think of is that the music app crashed when I put it into standby and ran in a loop until the battery went dead. Android wasn't locked up though or I wouldn't have had the nice battery graph showing it discharging all night.

Thanks,

D

1. What FW is it having ?  I got this issue in early FW.
2. if you had other APP running in back ground, I think X53 won't go deep sleep.

FYR. I don't install many apps in X53 and keep it as less as I need. Have a good luck.

Hi,

I'm running FW 1.2.1 which I think is the latest. I also run in pure music mode unless I'm doing some type of admin work on the device so no other apps running in the background. I'm pretty sure that when I hit the power button to put it to sleep that the music app locked up in some way which usually means it's running in a tight loop drawing max power so it just sat there draining the battery all night. I'll just keep an eye on it.

Thanks,

D

You could do a test like what you did that night, keep an eye on it and see if this would happen again. If it's just a one time thing, it would be so hard to find out the exact issue.

I just repeated your operation in the afternoon, and my x53 was working well. Fw. Q1.2.1 too. But I set deep sleep to 5mins only.
Like Bryan said try it again and put eyes on.

I finally found the crash logs, there is one for battery and one for system. I definitely had a crash at the time this happened so it isn't likely to happen again. However, going through the crash logs, I'm a bit surprised how many times it has crashed. FiiO must have done a good job of crash recovery since most of these aren't noticed.

The logs are rather interesting although I'm a software developer which means I'm weird about things like logs. :-) If you want to see them (in Android mode) open the ES File Explorer, go to the internal SD, find FiiOLog then select battery or system, click on one of the log files, select text then select ES Note Editor. Entries start with date and time followed by abbreviated descriptions of events. The system log has dividers that show where crashes happened.

Well I just had a duplicate discharge event. Almost exact same scenario except that it hadn't just finished charging this time but it still had almost 90% charge. When the last album of the night finished I turned off the power to standby and left the system on my desk. I know nothing was playing but since I have "play through folders" turned off that would not account for this anyway.

When I looked at my player in the morning I had 1% power left and looking at the battery graph it had drained continually in a straight line for over 10 hours.

I can also see this in the battery log as a continuous series of discharge entries. Does anyone know how to interpret battery log entries? They start with a timestamp then a series of numbers separated by commas. I'm sure these values are charge level values, temperature values, discharge rate, etc.

I also have a system log that appears to have caught this event. I will send this to a FiiO tech if you send me your PM info.

Thanks,

D

Hi Bryant,

I sent in the logs just now. Please make sure the tech knows that the first set of logs I sent were from the wrong day (6-3), but noticed it and sent a follow-up email with the correct log files attached (6-2). The log files are stuffed with great-looking debugging data (I'm a software developer) so make sure he takes a look at this because you can plainly see the system going through a series of failures which get progressively worse followed by hours of repetitive looping so it's pretty obvious why the battery has been discharging this way.

Thanks,

D

For what it’s worth, my new X5 Gen III does not seem to turn off when idle. Play through folders is not enabled. Off timer (music App) is set for 10 minutes, but doesn’t stay enabled. I paused the music and let it sit for 20 minutes, but the player was still on.

Hi,

I think that it may not be able to work while it's on pause since it's an "inactivity timeout" and it sees pause as an activity. Try leaving the unit turned on but not paused or playing and see if it turns itself off.

Hey guys,

This problem still exists and is a serious problem. The log files I sent you should make it easy to figure out what is causing the battery to go dead this way. I don't know anything about X5 III internals but I'm a software developer and it's obvious by looking at these logs that the system is going into some tight loop when it hits the Idle off time (in Android settings). You can see the same set of calls running over and over until the battery goes dead so please check out the log I sent you.

Thank you for your quick reply. Yes it can be recharged but it's not good to have a device that gets super-hot and rapidly discharges the battery until nothing is left when you thought it had gone to sleep and turned off.

This doesn't happen every time but I would say it happens about 1 out of 5 times the device is left on and idles itself to sleep. As I mentioned, the log I sent you shows the device going into a loop of perhaps 5 log entries which repeats until the battery is dead and the device shuts down.

Let me know if you need another copy of the log.

Thanks,

D

Dear friend,

Yes, you could send another log to support@fiio.com instead.

Did you try to burn the firmware to see whether it helps: http://fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=41890&extra=
