M9 Wifi connection

Has anyone solved the constantly dropping wifi connection on the M9?

I've got a Tidal membership but this player is becoming frustrating and unusable. I've tred shifting the wifi channels around but the results are the same - tyically, once connected it plays 4 or 5 songs then just disconnects.

None of my other wifi connected devices have this issue.

Any ideas please otherwise this is going back for a refund which would be a shame as I'm enjoying the quality once it plays!

The same for me and most likely everyone. Frustrating, connection gets on and off. The only way I found it workable was to reboot it. Connection become stable. It does have nothing to do with bluetooth on in the same time with wifi on. Try rebooting and reconnecting again to your network.

I have temporarily set that the wifi is off at standby. works so far quite well, I hope that will be fixed with the next update

Thanks Sorin and Fatih. Fiio Mods - it would be good to get an official steer on these wifi connectivity issues please. This could potentially ruin what in every other respect is a pretty competent player.

As I said before, unless I can get this fixed very shortly, this unit is going back to Amazon for a full refund. Thanks

Wifi on M9 is terrible. When you use Bluetooth connection you must degree sound/connection quality because interference is so big that you hear only crackling sound in headphones. And this happens even if you do not use wifi transfer. Wifi connected and Bluetooth with LDAC is not working as should.

Interestingly I have no issue with the WIfi connection. Using it with Spotify and did not notice nor experience any drop in the connection (used 2.4GHz and 5GHz depending on y location).

Good for you, however M9 does have only 2.4GHz capability to connect.

You are marketing the M9 as a wireless music player - problem is that it doesn't keep connected wirelessly and in my experience is unusable.

What can you suggest to correct this please? Time for you to now step in....it's NOW URGENT. Thank you.

This is how Fiio and their support, software teams work
Many many issue pending months, no fix, no support.

I am so tired with this, too.  Very wrong when chose Fiio.

Don't beleive on what they post on their fan page, or how the shop telling to you.
If I know about this forum before, also how Fiio software team work, I will never chose them

You might just want to send your player back and get something else. I’ve had it up to here with Fiio and their sh*tty firmware and customer service. One of the worst electronics companies I’ve dealt with. Their solution to most things is the standard “turn it off then back on” bs. They make you feel like you’re always doing something wrong. Fix your shit, Fiio!

There is only one solution. If you want to use LDAC with sound quality 990kbps or standard quality 660kbps you must turn off wifi. Bluetooth connection with headphones is reliable only up to 330kbps, so same as aptx. Even better in this situation is to choose aptxHD connection 576kbps. With aptxHD there is no crackling.

Fiio - I am actually embarrassed for you.

This post has now been live for 7 days and you have not bothered to respond to my original thread. How can you market a device as wifi capable when it constantly drops wifi signal? Your lack of attention to these concerns is woeful. For a THIRD AND FINAL TIME, can I invite you to explain what the solution is please?

As it stands, I am doubtful whether I will ever be buying Fiio products again or recommending to anyone else. Over to you now.

I'm pretty sure that they answer that will forward this to software engineers.
M9 have very poor wifi/Bluetooth implementation. Turn on developer options in the system and display CPU load. Then turn on Bluetooth, stream some music with different codecs aptx HD, LDAC levels. Turn On wifi and observe CPU load. Funny thing: slide down taskbar menu and observe CPU load. This device is buggy as hell! Poor hardware and software implementation = the same level of user experience.

Quick update. Fiio Technical Support asked me to install M9 beta software.....done and tested over 2 days, no improvement. They have also explained there is an 'issue' with the Samsung chip driving the wifi module - so it looks like a hardware issue. Pretty damning.

Given this, my player is unusable for its intended purpose - over to Fiio now to offer another solution or replacement or refund.

I have some issues with the M9,  as I tend to with most of FIIs products apart from its pure DACS, like the BTR3. but don't get WIFI drop out. Which is odd. In fairness, M9 wifi reception isn't strong.  For example in my kitchen where the wifi signal is a little weaker, the M9 struggles to connect to wifi, if at all. While every other device I have can. However, closer to my router and I have no issues.

I cannot connect to my WiFi 2.4 GHz SSID unless I reboot my router (at home).   At work, WiFi connects seamlessly.   I think (after talking to an IT guy at work), that the router is not assigning an IP address to the DAP, why?  Call AT&T.

I am really bewildered by this thread - especially the quote from the FIIO engineer.  I have an M6 and an M9 - don't ask. And while I agree that it is easy to stress the CPU - perhaps why it struggles with the QOBUZ app which is resource heavy - either have given me the issues listed here. The only similar issue is when downloading from Tidal while streaming at the same time and also using Bluetooth - at least on the M6.  This always causes network dropouts. However, this seems to be due to the strain on the CPU. Especially, as the thing gets SO hot during these moments.

I know this will sound stupid, but is everyone changing the WIFI settings so they do not disconnect when the player goes to "sleep"? Or is it possible there are different builds of both players?
