Well, though I have tried to be careful with taking good care
of my devices, I have finally experience a cracked (hairline)
glass on my much beloved Fiio X7 Mark II. I guess it can
happen to the best of us.  I do not recall dropping it, but
I did have it standing vertical on a table and fell flat face
down as it was unbalanced. That has happened before
and I had not noticed any damage before.
Now there are about 2 thin hairline cracks on the glass.
The functionality has not been impaired any.
I am only worried that if a new model comes out with all the
similar functionalities as this one (better than the M7? out now adding
back optical toslink output), I won't be able to sell my current
device as I did the X5 3rd gen for a good price.

Would it be too costly and easy to repair this glass?
Would safelite thing work? I should have had it insured maybe.
Would the cost to repair it be too expensive and not worth it?

Let me know

Thank you.

Hi Currter,

Yes, you can definitely get it fixed for much less than the cost of replacement. If you check online for "phone screen repair", "cracked phone glass repair" or anything similar you should find lots of places that will do this for you. Any place that can fix a smartphone shouldn't have any problem repairing your X7-II. It should actually be easier since FiiO makes the cases far simpler to get into and they have more room to work with than a phone.

My search in the US turned up over a dozen places within 15 km of my home, many of them offering a 1-hour turn-around and prices under $100 USD. The only caveat is whether they will have the parts in stock or need to order them since they normally stock parts for smartphones, not DAPs. I would recommend calling them so they can look up what's needed to repair an X7-II and order the parts if necessary.

Btw, my X5-III has a 7H screen protector and doesn't have a single scratch after more than a year of use. They don't advertise protection from cracking but it's safer to have one so I would recommend having them use something like that when you have it repaired unless they have a matching display with Guerilla Glass.

Good luck!

Dear friend,

Have you removed the screen protector for checking first?

The device did not seem to come with a screen protector.

Well it is too late for that.
The hairline crack that runs left to right is barely noticeable  if running
applications on it and in the light.

It is just that if Fiio produces a better model than the M11
(maybe a M15 ) , I won't be able to get full value for this Mark II
to sell it easily like I did the red X5 3rd gen to get the Mark II.

I guess I can deal with this as it may not be economical to
pay $100 to fix this glass.

Thank you for your concerns and assistance.

Dear friend,

The screen protector has been applied for the x7mkii before factory out.You could try to remove it from the side first.
Hope it helps.
Hope your problem can be sloved soon.

Who knows, how do I remove the screen protector ... perhaps using that
special screwdriver that came with the device? I thought that was to help
change the DAC or something on the bottom.

The glass screen kind of look like it can be replaced somewhat (easily),
but I am too chicken to open anything to investigate perhaps making
things worse.
I may find that special screw driver to open the things on the sides.

thank you.
